  • Slingshot Hip Hop A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition Screening

    “Slingshot Hip Hop” braids together the stories of young Palestinians living in Gaza, the West Bank and inside Israel as they discover hip hop and employ it as a tool to surmount divisions imposed by occupation and poverty. From internal checkpoints and Separation Walls to gender norms and generational differences, this is the story of young people crossing the borders that separate them.

    Featuring Palestinian hip hop artists DAM, PR (Palestinian Rapperz), ABEER, Arapeyat, and Mahmoud Shalabi. 2008, 83 min., Arabic, English & Hebrew.

    Please join Wobbly (Jon Leidecker) and Maïa Cybelle Carpenter for a screening of “Nous”, her new 16mm experimental film in progress. It will be a special screening as they are recording the soundtrack live for the final print of her film.

    “Nous” takes a close look at how we build relationships and how
    relationships build us. A bi-lingual film in French and English. Optical
    printing done during an artist residency at Liason of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto in 2005. Soundtrack by Wobbly (http://www.detritus.net/wobbly/) with contrebass pre-recorded contributions by Sascha Jacobsen (http://www.saschajacobsen.com) and voice-over by Maïa Cybelle Carpenter.
