The new hard-hitting documentary, THE BIG SELLOUT weaves a story of mismanagement, neocolonialism, suffering and resistance from four separate corners of the globe.
Traveling throughout both the developing and industrialized world, the film brings us face-to-face with the architects of the reigning world economic order, as well as with the people bearing the brunt of their policies. The film shows how international financial institutions, like the IMF and World Bank, are demanding draconian cuts in public spending and the worldwide privatization of basic public services, such as electricity, public transportation, public health care, and water supplyincluding privatizing rainwater. In South America, Asia, Africa, and also in Europe and the United States, the director meets people, to whom it is clear that the privatizations are not for their benefit but for maximizing profits of the banks and transnationals. Germany, 94 min, 2006, English and Spanish w/ English subtitles.
Discussion will follow the film.
