Roxi Power Hamilton has gathered trans-genre works of literature in the pages of Viz. Inter-arts Anthology. Tonight we have asked a handful of the makers of these hybrid works to take to the stage, screen and mic to show how the several arts thrive in these parts by crossbreeding.
Touching base with an earlier flowering of performance art and writing, Dore Bowen will discuss the Fluxus event score and lead several brief performances.
Highlighting the SF Bay Area revival of the art of live film narration, Mac McGinnes will reprise Norma Cole's neo-benshi script to a scene from Judex (1963), and Maxine Chernoff and Paul Hoover will premiere their piece to scenes from Point Blank (1967).
The so-called "poetry film" will be represented by Dean Smith's video to Robert Glück's poem Aliengnosis and Konrad Steiner's montage accompaniment to a section recorded from Leslie Scalapino's book way.
And finally drawing from an even earlier historical antecedant, a performance of Sami Rosenstok's polylingual simultaneous poem The Admiral Looks for a House to Rent, and a spontaneous treasure from the American Poetry Archives round out this eventful evening.
