  • You Are Loved No Matter How You Blossom (Opening Reception)

ATA Window Gallery presents Crystal Vielula’s You Are Loved No Matter How You Blossom
    May 9 – June 8, 2019

    Reception and performance: May 29, 2019, 6:30-9PM

Allow the time-traveling deities from planet Genera year 3060 welcome you into a new paradigm where genitals do not dictate your gender, interests, abilities, attractions or value.  This world is free from arbitrary hierarchies and repression, it’s a place where all people are loved and valued no matter how they blossom.

On May 29th there will be a performance with offerings and dance to urge the deities from the planet Genera to open the portal from our present reality of repression and antiquated thinking to their enlightened existence.  Their home is a place where everyone has value and is cared for.  It is filled with natural beauty and an overwhelming sense of happiness and ease.  When the portal is open you are invited to step into Utopia. • Don’t Say Shit (closing reception)

    June 1, 2016 – June 30, 2016

Don't Say ShitI am inspired by the current meme craze, and strive to create my own version of this phenomenon. It’ lowbrow art, within a “high-art” meme. I sometimes use unconventional materials like Perler beads, reminiscent of my early childhood, I still find pleasure and entertainment in its simple attraction. With the toys of my childhood I express the attitudes of my adulthood, often revealing my juvenile tendencies. I find myself re-learning how to be playful and subsequently my subject matter is often taboo.

  • Other Cinema: OPTRONICA2

    6_Optronica2[1] ELEKTRO MOSKVA + DAVIS + PAYNE/BALDWIN +
Our second Op installment is anchored by the North American premiere of this riveting Russian report on electronic music from the former USSR, directed by Elena Tikhonova and Dominik Spritzendorfer. Opening is John Davis, the pillar of NorCal’s analog synth scene, who sets off his 20-min. Soviet Hiss, a sublime reading of the obscure optical tracks of Soviet 16mm “propaganda” films! These rarities fell into John’s hands on his 2014 Tajikistan residency; tonight he transmogrifies their electronic interludes into pure sonic poetry! PLUS “twins” from John’s now-legendary Gravity Spells fest: Craig Baldwin’s Time Bomb against Maggie Payne’s Black Ice/STATIC, seen and heard in asynchronous playback for the first time publicly. AND Leon Theremin (of course!), the Trololo Man, Russian rockers, vodka shots, etc.
