  • Living Room Light Exchange (LRLX)

We invite you to join us for the third exchange of Living Room Light Exchange (LRLX) Season 9! LRLX is a monthly salon dedicated to new media art forms and dialogues that meets in rotating venues. In each ‘season’ of LRLX, we hold monthly artist talks where we curate three artists or cultural producers who present recent work. Engaged discussions and dialogue with attendees follows.

For this month’s exchange, we will be in conversation with Zekarias Musele Thompson, an artist based in Oakland, CA, and Reykjavík, IS, often working with sonic composition, photography, collaborative group practice & performance, writing, and mark-making, Jillian (Lee) Crandall, an artist and PhD in Geography at UC Berkeley whose work intersects queer/trans/feminist digital geographies and political economies with a focus on socio-spatial design justice, and Alexa Bonomo, a tech artist and scholar with a deep interest in methods in preservation and archiving with an extensive skill set in creative technology.

Doors at 7 talks begin at 7:30pm

    RSVP: All RSVPs through Withfriends

JEREMY  ROURKE + KATHLEEN QUILLIAN + HARRY SMITH +

Our seasonal celebration of all things Animated is anchored on local hero Jeremy Rourke‘s sensational set of pixillated eye-poppers, featuring his new piece Raindance Redux, commissioned by the Orphan Film Fest! Jeremy gigs, jigs, and zig-zags over our gallery pedestals in his five-title, half-hour hullaballoo ending with a Toon Tune dedicated to dear departed Helen Hill. Jeremy does a podium handstand in her honor! Kathleen Quillian works those same pedestals with her Ten Dollar Bill zoetrope zinger, with a live whirly-tube track! Esoteric alchemist Harry Smith‘s early direct-animations are displayed in Paola Igliori‘s American Magus, after we are treated to an eccentric history of animation masters: Winsor McCay, Max Fleischer, Len Lye, Philip Stapp, Bruce Bickford, John Knecht, and Sally Cruikshank‘s 1978 Quasi at the Quackadero (on 16mm!). Come early for free candy, archival gems from CCA(C)‘s Animation Department, and Jim Henson‘s 1968 Time Piece. $12
