  • OC: MOSTLY TRUE ZINE LAUNCH + PHOTO/FILM BENEFIT

Other Cinema/Bill Daniel‘s midsummer Zine launch! On the occasion of SF‘s annual Art Book Fair, Craig Baldwin/Other Cinema, local maker Linda Scobie, and Bill Daniel join forces for a festive benefit—a photo exhibit, a film screening, and a zine show! The doors of ATA Gallery will be open from 6PM for a Fair after-party and a reception for the just-returned Daniel, back in the Bay Area after 20 years! And he’s back with a  new issue (number 3), of his hobo-journal, Mostly True. Bill will be selling that, plus lots more at one of six tables, alongside Linda Scobie, Anson Cyr, Greta Snider, Nik Nerburn, and Craig Baldwin. Bill‘s Tri-X Noise photos, as well as graphics from Anson Cyr, neon from Linda Scobie, and art from Abby Banks, energize our gallery walls.

The evening will open with a reception, viewing, and tabling. Around 7:30, we’ll see the first of three film/performance “pods”, boasting pieces by Scobie, Martha Colburn, Marshall Weber, Anson Cyr, Greta Snider, and an Art21 episode on Margaret Kilgallen and Twist. A 15-minute break will allow free movement after the first set, before we commence with the second, more film-centered . This  reel includes a rarity from Bruce Conner, a rediscovered Avengers clip,  musical treasures, and the world premiere of Baldwin‘s Double Larynx, an expanded-cinema performance in 3-D! Another break precedes the last pod, this one leaning towards 16mm cult anomalies. Russ Forster blesses us all with his theremin busking on the sidewalk.

The exhibit will also be open for viewing on Sunday from 12-6.

For out-of-town supporters who want to make a contribution, please take the opportunity to pick up our Avant to Live! book at this link: http://www.othercinemadvd.com/AtL_Book.html

  • Illusions of Safety & Wobbly & Bran (…) Pos

An evening of sound and image with:

    Illusion of Safety

    Bran (…) Pos

    Wobbly

@illusionofsafety1983 will be performing as a quartet including @thomas.dimuzio Thomas Dimuzio. Andy Way of Thoabath @breakingwheel. @daniel_james_burke IOS. & John Wiese @sad_psychics.

Since 1983, Daniel Burke and his many conspirators under the Illusion Of Safety banner have over the course of 40+ full length releases traversed most every facet of the avant sound plane, from early industrial pop deconstruction to blindingly minimal sound art to densely surreal found-sound collage, each unique approach bending and reconstituting the expectations and possibilities of each realm, creating uneasy music that is dense and dystopian and yet also beautiful.

    Wobbly

Jon Leidecker (aka Wobbly) is a human in the loop, making music with people and machines that listen. Improvising with recordings as readily as humans, the goal is to produce sounds that seem to be asking questions.

    Bran (…) Pos

Heralded by American Theater magazine as the future of sound design, Jake Rodriguez is renowned in the music underground by another name, the bran(…)pos. His performances on bizarre sound technologies of his own creation (some controlled by his face, others by his unmentionables) incorporate intricate melodies as part of a pure-noise palette with releases on Resipiscent, C.I.P., Animal Disguise, and Chitah! Chitah! Soundcrack.
