  • ANOTHER HOLE IN THE HEAD PRESENTS: BACK AND FORTH “THE SHINNING”

What happens when you screen one copy of a film, superimposed with a second (silent) copy, playing in reverse?

If you believe in urban legends and conspiracy theories, you may find evidence of secret messages hidden within the film.

If not, you may still see instances of eerie symmetry as the scenes slip past one another.

What happens when the film in question is an iconic Horror film, directed by a legendary genius? Why, you find yourself witnessing a film that haunts itself!

    WOOD + FAVORITE + BUCHANAN/GATEWOOD +
This semi-annual celebration of our City’s history in fact also serves to launch two new publications!! Projection-artist Ben Woodproudly unveils California’s Hidden Mural, his well-researched report on the Ohlonemurals hidden behind the altar of Mission Dolores itself. Against odds, he managed to squeeze in behind the wooden reredos and lower a camera on a wire…and he GOT THE SHOTS of the indigenous designs still on the rear wall of the nave! He shares the results tonight, in conjunction with the formal publication of his account. In an uncanny coincidence, local maker Brian Favorite is here too with a saga of another Catholic church, his 18-min Parish. Sited in the Castro some 9 blocks west, Holy Redeemerrose to be a vibrant center for both gay and straight congregants in the midst of theAIDS crisis. AND: Anthony Buchanan also stakes his SF claim, releasing the first issue of CounterFlicks in tandem with his Charles Gatewood Archive screener–on another dear neighbor (from Bernal Heights) no longer with us. PLUS: Javier Briones’ El Sonador, Julia Schroeder’s Brittsense…andSteve McQueen’s Bullitt, ofcourse.

Amma Ateria (Jeanie Aprille Tang) is a sound artist and electroacoustic composer, born in Hong Kong, based in California. Her practice in sound examines the coexistence of polarity in the sonic spectrum. With an immediacy of tension and release through spatialization, her performance consist an intention to expand physicality in the human experience, navigated by cross-modal synesthetic influences from the contemporary moment. Thus the movements in sound expose her body’s visceral resonance in polar opposites, examining boundaries and brinks of sonic breakage via saturated transitions of stark polarities. With memories of condensed cities, she gravitates to frequencies of close-ranged airplanes, inaudible conversations, out of body experiences, sustained harmonics intersected with musique concrète, and synthesized speed of air with various colours of noise.

John Davis is a Northern California musician and visual artist building on the relationship between moving image and sound through live performance and studio-based works. Employing chance and collaborative exchange as regular means for creative expression, John mishandles stringed and percussive instruments, keyboards, field recordings, magnetic tape and various electronic music circuits. In addition to releasing music on his imprint Bimodal Press, John has releases on the Root Strata, Digitalis, Students of Decay and Peasant Magik labels in the US.www.noiseforlight.com

Taunting all humankind, Angst Hase Pfeffer Nase is Chris Cooper and Jess Goddard’s lovingly withering critique of fear’s own coping mechanism: logic. Mindful of human cowardice, AHPN myofascializes weak forces with stronger, directing gravity through their own hands onto heaps of pie cutters, spinning tops, stiff brushes, long strings, and power amplifiers so as to embolden all who must one day perish.
