‘Trance Mutations’  is an on going series of live musical performances with accompanied projections curated by Micah Danemayer. Focusing on experimental themes, the moving image as it relates to sonic landscapes, Micah is continually searching for local musicians who harness these themes.

Appearing will be new sonic modulations from local musicians  Waxy Tombs, Black Thread, Idaho Joe and Jungle Jim. Paired with the music will be 16 mm Projections from the East Bay’s Black Hole as well as Vhs based artist, Visual Aids.

Waxy Tomb/Program Home

Julia is a native SF and a prolific artist whose music performances center around the same sensory issues that her extensive work in visual arts have, namely the interface between the body and technology. Using the subversive language of the alienated body she evokes the idea that our sensory organs are just a step away from becoming “knobs” which interface us with external reality.

Black Thread

Using the tape cassette as a medium, Black Thread experiments with magnetic tape surgery. Creating long or short loops of obscure soundscapes, the artist creates a collage of intriguing imagery oozing with heavy synth rhythms and melodies.

Idaho Joe

Idaho Joe Windslow is the inventor of the gongtar (cello with gong resonator), singing bowl gamelan (which is played standing with a back brace of mannequin arm singing bowl holders), and thevoxtar (amplified sympathetic string fixture excited by voice).  He backs himself up with a collection of exotic drum machines from India and the Middle East.  Using hypnosis and lyrics he aims to send the listener into altered states of  consciousness.

Jungle Jim

Jungle Jim’s ear is tuned to another time, conjuring lush, tropical imagery. Armed with tape cassette, loop station and a sampler, Jungle Jim caresses the audience with sonic meditations that stir into introspective percussion. His work  attempts to bind a wide variety of influences (music or otherwise) into a single train of sonic thought.
