Dream Dive

Friday, November 8, 2019, 4:00 pm

Dream Dive is a mini-fest benefit to support the organization “Diversidad Trans” in their efforts to help trans and queer asylum seekers in the “trans pod” detention center located in Cibola, New Mexico. The funds will go towards commissary and bail for the individuals being held at this location. The benefit will showcase art, sounds, performances and films curated by duo Chi Chi Castillo o and Semaj Peltier in collaboration with Elsa Trash.

Castillo and Peltier have come together to curate a show emphasizing queerness and sexuality, creating a dream-world through surrealist experimental DIY works. This is Castillo and Peltier’s third collaboration, beginning with “Chi Chi’s House Party”, a smut film taking place in the SF Bay Area highlighting the queer underground. These themes continue with their project “No Better Job”, featuring emerging talent Jess “Sylk” Rodriguez and Gin LaBoy. NBJ is a film about the friendship of two sex workers in the Bay Area navigating art spaces and life in present day San Fransisco.
Castillo and Peltier are excited to collaborate on curation and performances with Elsa Trash. Trash is an artist, musician and zine maker who loves cats and hates the police. She will be performing under her band Scissoring as well as an individual live performance with a pop-up installation piece.
The event will feature an afternoon of tabling and DJ sets along with window performances from 4 PM – 7 PM, followed by sound and movement from various local artists (bring your dollars!!!) at 9 PM. The evening ends with an hour of short experimental films, closing with the premiere of “No Better Job”.
If you’re unable to make the event, but would like to support and donate to Diversidad Trans, their venmo is: @diversidad-trans
