Noise Pop: SOUND AND CHAOS

Wednesday, February 25, 2015, 7:00 pm, $12

In the late ‘70s, legendary iconoclast Brian Eno gave a seventeen-year old named Martin Bisi a loan to build a recording studio in a decrepit old factory in the uninhabited depths of Gowanus, Brooklyn. Eno set about recording his classic ambient record ON LAND in the studio he paid for, which was known as BC. Very soon, BC was ground zero for everything from the birth of hip hop to noise rock and everything in between. Decades later and still going strong, Martin and his studio are up against a challenge they never foresaw – a changing neighborhood and a city that very may well have priced out its creative class. Featuring incredible footage from a who’s who of underground and above ground luminaries including Afrika Bambaata, Sonic Youth, Whitney Houston, Herbie Hancock, John Zorn, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Swans, Cop Shoot Cop and many more, SOUND AND CHAOS is an essential documentary about a time, a place, and one of the great scenes in modern music. Directed by Ryan Douglass & Sarah Leavitt. 2014. Digital. 72 minutes.
