Views from today’s marathon: a gold mine of recent local history…

The 30 hour marathon included a wealth of films that documented San Francisco’s recent history in an essential way. They were not made for that purpose, but created by people inside of the experience and culture of the times. Very recent times. The Hamm’s brewery with the punks who were squatting in it. Valerie Soe’s pre-Streetview driveby of Valencia, her commentary an ode to things disappeared (except ATA!!!); Kent Howie’s ATV man-on -the street show: the Mission flea market near Alabama and 19th streets, vanished in the last 10 years and replaced by upscale boutique industry and the T-word…without vigilance and action, history deletes itself.
