Wenxin Zhang (b. 1989) lives and works in San Francisco. She received her MFA at California College of the Arts. Zhang creates non-linear photographic novels. In her writings and photography, she describes her experiences of growing up in China, her current life in San Francisco, and her personal relationships. Zhang’s work has exhibited widely in United States and China. Zhang is now doing and Artist in Residence at Rayko Photo Center, San Francisco. Zhang was selected as a finalist in 2014 Three Shadows Photography Award, Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award, and Photographic Museum of Humanity New Generation Award. Also, Zhang will be an artist in residence at The Center for Photography in summer 2014.

The on-going project Beast by the Waterfall Guesthouse discusses lost and rediscovered desire, the evolution of curiosity and estrangement between childhood and adulthood in human life, and how the recent history has affected my generation and me in an illusive way. Beast by the Waterfall Guesthouse consists of photographic and written works to create a nonlinear story, in which the boundaries between animal and human are blurred, as well as the sense of time.

Window: Together Forever

June 11, 2014- June 30, 2014

jbrATATogether Forever is part of an ongoing body of work that explores the way in which media projections of reality increasingly and with greater immediacy distort our perception of experience. Starting with news media, these trickle-down distortions permeate, then supersede, the objective happenstance of occurrence. The design of these new truths is seductive, its arc a shadow of our own fears and desires. By embracing this veiled stream of myth I hope to rechannel it, to slow it down long enough to catch the mirror in its surface. Together Forever is part time based installation, and part experimental brand identity.

Be the mirror. It’s up to you now.
