In 2001 former Inlandboatmen’s Union member Mark Liiv, along with Whispered Media Collective, created “Boom, The Sound of Eviction”. The film chronicles the late 90’s technology boom and bust and the effect it had on San Francisco residents and neighborhoods. We will screen this film and afterwords hear about the connections between the last tech boom and the one we are experiencing now.

We will then hear from community members who are currently being displaced and what they are doing to fight back. We will touch on how evictions, foreclosure, high cost of living/rents and job loss all contribute to the displacement of working class communities in San Francisco and the larger Bay Area and what we can do to fight back together to preserve our homes, communities and the city we love.
