Initially banned by the French government, Battle of Algiers was the first film to depict the Algerian revolt against French colonialism. With a newsreel like authenticity, we follow Ali La Pointe and his followers through the streets of Algiers as they struggle for the return of their country. This engaging drama explores the Algerian struggle to gain independence. Directed by Gillo Pontecorvo and released in 1966, it was an Academy Award nominee for best foreign film. 2hr5min, B&W, subtitled in English.

 

The ANSWER (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism) Coalition was formed a few days after September 11, 2001 opposing the Bush administration’s program of “Endless War”, including the war on Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine and throughout the world. ANSWER is the key organization that mobilized historic numbers of people against was and racism over the last year and a half.
